Why Trump Changed His Mind on Cryptocurrency
On his second day back in office, President Donald Trump issued a full pardon to Ross Ulbricht, the founder of dark-web marketplace Silk Road. The move is part of a raft of promises Trump made to the cryptocurrency community while on the campaign trail. These included the creation of a strategic Bitcoin reserve and a promise to immediately fire Gary Gensler, the then chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission. Trump’s return to the White House coincides with a massive rally in cryptocurrencies. In December, Bitcoin crossed the $100,000 mark for the first time -- a significant milestone after 16 years of boom and bust. But for the average American, crypto still comes with plenty of risks.
