Hello and welcome to my channel my name is Sylvette and in this video I search on my 2017 videos when I was surviving Hurricane Maria. Its been 5yrs (2017) since this happen in my Island Puerto Rico. I have to say that my experience was not the same from others my family and I prepared really well in all parts because we have been in others Hurricanes so we know what to do in the moment.
I spend the Hurricane in Caguas with my husband and 2 dogs and my Mom was in Bayamon after 3 days in Caguas we saw that the highway was open for driving so we visit my Mom and then came back for all my things because we stay 3 months in Bayamon waiting for the light and water to work again so....
We stay at home 3 weeks without buying food and we did maintain in contact with our family. Also I have the solar panel that helps recharge the cellphones and one point we start getting wifi at night and I did connect to wifi when we go out to the avenue.
Our neighbors got closed and we helps us one and others. We leave our house in Caguas because it was a rental home and the owner live in front of the house so we know that the house was safe. And because I dint have a stove to cook.
In all we dint have a electrical plant so we sleep in the heat of the night. I was listening the radio at night and people call to said things that in the day the radio will not permit saying.
Our family and friends where safe but I know that a lot of people did not prepared and have a difficult time. Please prepared with time and always have cash to buy food there is no light, there is no Ath, visa, ect... only cash to survive. Buy food and water and be in a safe place.
You can enter with your pets to a shelter there is a law in PR that protect them in a situation like this. Prepared your pets with kennels, leash, collar and pet food. The situation in the Island with dogs abandoned got very high and today it still high the numbers.
I have to say that my mother in law got light on February 2020 so she spend six months without light and that is hard living for a older person. And the people from the mountains got light 9 to 12 months later. In 2021 Puerto Rico was back to business after the Covid 19 so it was a long process of rebuilding the Island.
Be safe!
